I’m Dr. Jessica Love Jordan, and you’ve found Love Behavioral Health Consulting’s blog, The Balance Beam—a space for reflection, perspective, and a little humor.
If I’ve learned anything over the years, it’s that life and the work of being a helping professional rarely come with a pause button. There is almost always something that requires our attention. Responsibilities stack up, deadlines loom, and in roles that involve caring for, supporting, or leading others, momentum often replaces reflection. Somewhere between being competent, reliable, and trusted, it becomes easy to stay in motion without checking in.
Balance isn’t about juggling perfectly. It’s about knowing what’s worth holding, what can be put down, and what support actually looks like in real life—not in theory. I believe that healing and sustainability should be practical and accessible. I’ve seen too many people—particularly those in helping and leadership roles—internalize strain that is often a predictable outcome of how the work is structured, rather than a personal shortcoming. Too often, the question “What do I actually need right now?” gets postponed indefinitely.
This blog is a space to slow the pace just enough to notice what tends to get overlooked. Sometimes that looks like reflections from the field. Sometimes it looks like naming patterns that show up across our personal lives, practice, supervision, training, and organizations. And sometimes it’s simply making room to think out loud about the realities of doing meaningful, demanding work--or just trying to live a purposeful life.
Whether you’re here for perspective, resonance, or a healthier alternative to doom scrolling, I hope you find something that gives language to experiences that don’t always get named. If you’re looking for a sign to recalibrate, reconsider, or pause—this might be it.
To being balanced and protecting your beam,
Dr. Love Jordan
